Vancouver tops San Jose to climb to second place

Aug 11, 2013 - 1:45 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC rode a pair of second- half goals to a vital 2-0 defeat of the San Jose Earthquakes at BC Place on Saturday.

A scoreless opening period gave way to a prosperous 45 minutes after the restart as Vancouver's deadly strike partnership helped the 'Caps collect all three points.

Camilo Sanvezzo got the home side off the mark in the 60th minute, getting a toe to Nigel Reo-Coker's cross to poke a shot past Jon Busch.

Reo-Coker helped set up the insurance goal in the 74th minute as he fed Kenny Miller for his seventh goal of the campaign.

Vancouver climbs to 36 points on the season, good enough for second place in the Western Conference. San Jose remains second from bottom on 30 points.
