Higuain's brace sees Columbus down N.Y.

Aug 11, 2013 - 1:39 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Federico Higuain scored twice to see the Columbus Crew get back in the win column with a 2-0 home defeat of Red Bull New York on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening period, Columbus was awarded a fortunate penalty just after the hour mark following a scramble in the box. But there was no mistaking Higuain's finish from the spot as he hammered the ensuing attempt into the roof of the net with authority.

The dagger came in the 76th minute from a lovely finish from the Argentine. Wil Trapp released Higuain on the right side of the penalty area and the Crew striker caught Luis Robles off his line, chipping a beautiful shot over the head of the Red Bulls goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The win snaps a three-game slide for Columbus as the Crew improve to 26 points on the season.

New York remains on 38 points, dropping its first league match since July 4.
