Opara's header sees SKC edge NYCFC

Mar 29, 2015 - 1:08 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ike Opara handed New York City its first MLS defeat as Sporting Kansas City claimed a 1-0 victory at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

New York, which was without the services of David Villa due to an adductor strain, fell behind in the 12th minute when Opara got on the end of Matt Besler's long throw into the box and sent a powerful header past Josh Saunders.

Sporting preserved the narrow lead for the remaining 78 minutes to close out the match and collect its first win of the campaign, bringing the club to five points on the season.

New York, also on five points, will attempt to get back to winning ways when it faces the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park on April 11.
