Galaxy scores three goals to end six-game skid

Sep 9, 2007 - 7:12 AM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Galaxy finally got the monkey off their back.

Alan Gordon, Edson Buddle and Kyle Martino all found the back of the net to help the Galaxy snap their six-game slide with a 3-1 triumph over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

It was the first win for the Galaxy (4-11-5), who won for the first time since defeating the Chicago Fire on July 4.

"It was a good night for us," Los Angeles coach Frank Yallop said. "I think getting three points was the most crucial thing for us."

"We have to win these games coming up for us to gain some momentum," Buddle said. "I was a little conscious of not having won a game here in two months. It has been frustrating. We have to look at the big picture and take care of the little things."

The 25-year-old Gordon registered his second goal of the season by beating Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul, who came out to challenge the shot but missed the ball in the 46th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Peter Vagenas picked up his second assist of the match when he fed Buddle, who blasted a shot down the middle of the net for his fourth goal this campaign.

The 2002 MLS Rookie of the Year, Martino extended the lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute with his second tally this season after receiving a pass from Cobi Jones.

"It has been a game of inches pretty much the whole season for us," Martino said. "It was nice to get the goal and get the monkey off my back. We really felt lately that we have played well and not got good results. It's good that guys are committed to having the effort still there."

Galaxy netminder Joe Cannon was en route to collecting his 56th career shutout until newcomer Mehdi Ballouchy scored in the 89th minute.

"We were unhappy that we didn't get the shutout," Cannon said. "But all we needed was three points. With seven guys missing (injuries) I think we put in a great performance and you have to give credit to all the guys in the locker room."

Ballouchy is playing in his fifth game with Colorado (7-10-7) since coming over from Real Salt Lake.
