Wizards end skid, beat Revs 4-2
Sep 6, 2009 - 3:37 AM FOXBOROUGH, Mass.(AP) -- Josh Wolff had two goals and the Kansas City Wizards snapped a seven-game winless streak with a 4-2 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.Wolff scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute and added a second tally as the Wizards (6-10-6) fought off two second-half goals by the 10-man Revolution (9-7-6) to give interim coach Peter Vermes his first victory.
It was Kansas City's first win since a 3-1 victory over New England on June 13.
Claudio Lopez opened the scoring in the third minute after Wolff seized on Darrius Barnes' error and fed a cross for the Argentine to finish past Revolution goalkeeper Brad Knighton.
Things went from bad to worse for the Revs in the 23rd minute when Shalrie Joseph was sent off after a challenge on Wizards midfielder Jack Jewsbury.
Wolff's run to the byline and cross in front of the goal forced Jay Heaps into conceding an own goal in the 29th minute, putting the Wizards ahead 2-0 and seemingly in control.
New England improved after the break and cut the deficit to 2-1 through Edgaras Jankauskas' side-volley in the 64th minute, but Wolff soon grabbed the goal he had threatened to convert all night as he tucked home a loose ball after Knighton couldn't claim Lopez's ball at the near post.
Revolution substitute Kheli Dube drew New England within 3-2 after heading home Sainey Nyassi's cross in the 81st minute, but Wolff scored in stoppage time to end the Revolution's three-game winning streak.
