Rapids win opener against Chivas USA 1-0

Mar 27, 2010 - 5:14 AM CARSON, California(AP) -- Omar Cummings scored early in the second half as the Colorado Rapids opened their Major League Soccer season with a 1-0 win over Chivas USA on Friday night.

Chivas lost its season-opener for the first time since 2005, its first season in MLS.

Cummings scored the only goal in what was a tight and uneventful match. In the 55th minute, Cummings swooped on a failed clearance and drove his shot inside the right post.

Seattle FC had a 2-0 win over Philadelphia on Thursday in the first match of the season.

On Saturday, Columbus hosts Toronto FC, Dallas is at home to Houston, Chicago travels to New York, D.C. United goes to Kansas City, Real Salt Lake has a night match in San Jose and New England takes on the Galaxy in Los Angeles.
