Razov registers milestone goal to lead Chivas

Apr 22, 2007 - 6:33 AM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- Maykel Galindo made the biggest impact but teammate Ante Razov made history.

Galindo scored a pair of goals in the first nine minutes and Razov became the third player in MLS history to record 100 goals as Chivas rolled to a 4-0 victory over Real Salt Lake.

With Chivas (2-1-1) already comfortably in front, 2-0, thanks to Galindo, Razov connected on his milestone tally on a picture-perfect play.

Francisco Mendoza veered down the left wing and moved in toward the net. Rather than shooting, he curled an arcing pass across the crease and Razov rose to meet it and head it down into the right side past a sprawling goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Razov trails only Real Salt Lake's Jason Kreis (108) and D.C. United's Jaime Moreno (105) as MLS players to reach 100 goals.

"My goal at this point is to win more championships, Open Cups, and help my team the best I can," the 33-year-old Razov said. "It feels great but I still have more soccer in me."

Razov reached the milestone in his 217th career game.

Galindo set the tone with a brilliant goal in the first minute. Streaking down the right side, he was met by an onrushing Rimando at the right edge of the penalty box.

The Cuban sensation deked Rimando and sent a left-footed shot into an open net at 28 seconds for the fastest goal in Chivas history and the sixth-fastest all-time in the MLS.

Less than eight minutes later, Galindo struck again, beating a defender down the right side again, moving to the edge of the goal crease and firing a shot in the far left corner for a 2-0 lead.

"We're fortunate to have someone with the speed he has (Galindo), but he did it on his own tonight," Chivas coach Preki said. "He was very opportunistic and that was good for us."

Matt Taylor capped the scoring in the 89th minute and Brad Guzan made two saves to get the shutout as Chivas handed Real Salt Lake (0-1-2) its first loss.

Real Salt Lake suffered another blow when forward Andy Williams suffered what appeared to be a serious lower-leg injury. Williams was taken off the field and out of the stadium on a stretcher.
