Chicago's winless streak reaches nine after draw with 'Quakes

May 29, 2011 - 2:57 AM Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - A goal in the 80th minute from Cory Gibbs rescued a point for the Chicago Fire against the San Jose Earthquakes at Toyota Park on Saturday as the two sides played to a 2-2 draw.

Diego Chaves came close to opening the scoring for Chicago (1-4-6) in the sixth minute when he struck the post, but it wasn't until the 50th minute that San Jose opened the scoring.

The goal came from Ramiro Corrales as he headed home a corner kick from Anthony Ampaipitakwong. But Chicago answered back within 10 minutes as a deflected shot from Cristian Nazarit struck the post and was followed up by Dominic Oduro.

Ampaipitakwong helped to restore the lead for the Earthquakes (3-4-4) 15 minutes from time when his right-wing cross was headed past goalkeeper Sean Johnson by Chris Wondolowski, giving the 'Quakes striker six goals on the year.

However, Gibbs made sure that Chicago claimed a point as his diving header from a Baggio Husidic cross beat goalkeeper Jon Busch.

The result extends the Earthquakes' unbeaten streak to four games, while Chicago has failed to win any of its last nine matches.
