Collin's late strike helps K.C. claim draw with Houston

Jul 17, 2011 - 2:55 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City's Aurelien Collin had a rough night at Robertson Stadium on Saturday as he was the recipient of two challenges which resulted in red cards.

But with Kansas City trailing 1-0 and applying pressure with a two-man advantage, it was Collin whose deflected shot from 25 yards found its way past Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall in the 90th minute.

The goal allowed Sporting to claim a 1-1 draw, extending its unbeaten streak to 11 games, while Houston, which had both Colin Clark and Brian Ching sent off in the second half, settles for its third draw in four matches.

Brad Davis got the game started well for Houston by curling a free kick inside the near post in the eighth minute.

But Collin prevented Davis from doubling his tally midway through the opening half when he slid in to block a close-range effort from the Dynamo midfielder.

Ching went close with a header from a Danny Cruz cross before the break, but Clark made things tough on the home side with a poor two-footed challenge on Collin which earned him a red card in the 51st minute.

Hall was then pressed into action in the 56th when C.J. Sapong's shot was tipped past the post by the 'keeper, while Ching made life really tough when he kicked Collin in frustration with 20 minutes to play, earning an early exit.

This allowed Sporting to throw players forward with Birahim Diop forcing a great diving save from Hall before a scramble in front of goal resulted in Matt Besler shooting over the net from six yards.

It looked like it just wasn't going to be K.C.'s day, but with time ticking down, Roger Espinoza laid a ball off to Collin, whose shot was deflected enough on its way to goal to elude Hall and help Sporting leave Texas with a share of the points.
