Revolution run unbeaten streak to six

May 13, 2007 - 6:43 AM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- A long layoff must have affected the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxay surrendered three second-half goals in their first match in two weeks to drop a 3-2 decision to the streaking New England Revolution

Los Angeles (1-2-1) entered the game with just three regular season games under their belt, but jumped on top early when Kyle Martino took a pass from Peter Vagenas and sent it past the outstretched arm of Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis in the 14th minute. It was Martino's first goal as a member of the Galaxy.

Taylor Twellman scored two goals, including both go-ahead goals which pushed New England's unbeaten streak to six games.

"It just seems too easy to get a chance against us at this time," Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said. "I felt we started the season solid and now we've broken down. We've scored 8 goals in 3 games, but obviously we can't be conceding at the other end. To concede 3 games at home is unacceptable. I know New England is dangerous, but I would give them 2 maybe."

Twellman's unassisted tally in the 52nd minute broke a 1-1 tie. The 27-year-old forward's header struck the crossbar and bounced right back to him, allowing him to head it in before goalkeeper Joe Cannon could recover.

"At this time," Revolution coach Steve Nicol said about Twellman, "it's obvious his confidence is way high."

The Galaxy tied the match with Tyrone Marshall's first goal of the season in the 84th minute. Landon Donovan took a corner kick and sent it into the box where Marshall headed it past Reis. Donovan assisted on both goals for Los Angeles, giving him five total in four games.

Twellman streaked back down the field and accepted a pass from Pat Noonan before slamming the game-winner past Los Angeles goalkeeper Joe Cannon in the 85th minute. Twellman now has six goals on the season.

"I felt it was probably an excellent game to watch for the fans," Nicol said. "The second half we were better with the ball and I knew that would create more chances. It was a great tying goal a great header from Marshall and then our guys showed what they were made of with a magic finish from Taylor."

Revolution (4-1-2) midfielder Steve Ralston set an MLS record by playing in his 318th career match.

"I try to take care of myself," Ralston said about his longevity. "I'm blessed with good genes. I take care of my body."
