Chivas loses, still clinches playoff spot
Oct 8, 2006 - 4:36 AM KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Chivas USA clinched a playoff berth despite dropping a 2-1 decision to the Kansas City Wizards.Claudio Suarez scored the lone goal for Chivas (10-9-12), which received help elsewhere to ensure it will participate in postseason action for the first time.
Dave van den Bergh scored in the 50th minute and Jose Burciaga Jr. added the go-ahead tally on a penalty kick in the 74th minute for Kansas City (10-13-8), which sits in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, six points behind Chicago.
Bo Oshoniyi made five saves for the Wizards, while Brad Guzan turned aside five shots for Chivas, which entered the league last year.
