Houston edges FC Dallas for first road win

Sep 25, 2011 - 1:31 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Geoff Cameron scored in the 87th minute as the Houston Dynamo defeated FC Dallas, 1-0, at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday in Major League Soccer for their first road win of the season.

The Dynamo were winless in their first 15 road matches, but won their next-to- last road fixture to move into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Houston (10-9-12) jumped from fourth to first in the standings, overtaking the Columbus Crew, the Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City.

Dallas (13-10-7) lost its third straight and has just one victory in its last seven games, but is still in fourth place in the Western division on 46 points - four more than Houston.

Houston goalie Tally Hall kept his side in the match early, making a few great saves early in the first half. He denied Jackson in the 14th, Brek Shea in the 15th, and was saved by the woodwork three times to post his fifth shutout.

Maicon Santos found the crossbar in the 16th, Jackson hit the left post in the 71st, and George John also found the crossbar in the 78th for Dallas.

Houston took advantage and Cameron reached Brad Davis' corner kick on the near side and headed past Dallas goalie Kevin Hartman for his fifth goal with three minutes remaining.

Cameron moved into a tie for the team lead in goals this year, and Davis moved into a tie with Los Angeles' David Beckham for the MLS lead with 14 assists.

Houston won its second straight and is unbeaten in three games, and visits the Chicago Fire on Oct. 1 in its next match. Dallas will try to snap its slump at the Colorado Rapids on Oct. 1 in a rematch of last season's MLS Cup final.
