Wizards overcome late first-half goal to force tie

May 20, 2007 - 6:19 AM COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (Ticker) -- With two teams jockeying for position inside their respective conferences, the Kansas City Wizards were just happy to come away with a point.

Eddie Johnson found Davy Arnaud on the right side in the 58th minute to help the Wizards salvage a 1-1 tie against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

The Wizards' Johnson - who is among the league leaders in goals, assists and points - took the pass from Kerry Zavagnin and found Arnaud streaking down the right side of the field. Arnaud sent a one-timer past goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul to the left side of the goal, becoming the ninth Colorado player to score a goal this season.

"Kerry played a great ball to Eddie out wide," Arnaud said. "Eddie then sent a perfect ball to me for an easy one-timer. This team is always looking to push forward, irregardless of what minute it is.

"The coaches told us at halftime to go out and win the second half - which we did - and we got a point."

The Rapids' Jovan Kirovski scored on a penalty kick as the result of a handball past Kansas City goalkeeper Kevin Hartman in the 46th minute for an early 1-0 lead.

"I take penalties (penalty kicks) all the time," Kirovski said. "I just put it down and hit it."

At the game, the Rapids honored Wizards assistant coach Chris Henderson, who played for the Rapids from 1996-98 and 2002-05, by inducting him into the Colorado Rapids Galleria of Honor.

"I want to thank everyone for all their support for my six and a half years here in Colorado," Henderson said during the induction ceremony. "It is definitely a special evening. I want to particularly show gratitude to (former Rapids owner) Philip Anschutz and (current Rapids owner) Stan Kroenke. Thanks for the memories."
