Rapids erase early deficit to draw Sporting
May 20, 2012 - 3:15 AM Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - Tyrone Marshall and Kosuke Kimura scored in an eight-minute stretch of the second half as the Colorado Rapids erased an early two-goal deficit Saturday for a 2-2 draw against Sporting Kansas City.Teal Bunbury scored twice inside 14 minutes for Sporting, but Marshall notched the first goal for Colorado in the 52nd and Kimura followed in the 60th as the Rapids avoided a second home loss on the season.
Colorado (5-6-1) was back at Dick's Sporting Goods Park following a three-game road trip, and added a draw to its three previous home wins through five games in Commerce City.
Sporting (7-3-1) snapped a three-game losing skid, but remained winless in its last four fixtures to slip to third place in the Eastern Conference and three points behind first-place Red Bull New York.
Bunbury opened the scoring inside two minutes when he reached a pass from Seth Sinovic and headed into the lower-right corner. He doubled the lead 12 minutes later when he converted to the bottom left for his first two goals this year.
Marshall pulled the first goal back for Colorado when he got under a free kick from Martin Rivero and headed into the right side, and Kimura turned a square pass from Conor Casey into the net from inside the six-yard box minutes later.
Colorado continues a homestand May 26 when it hosts the Montreal Impact, while Kansas City returns home to host the San Jose Earthquakes on May 27.
