Borchers leaves it late as RSL tops Dallas

May 27, 2012 - 3:19 AM Sandy, UT (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Kyle Reynish was the most relieved man in Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday when Nat Borchers scored in stoppage time to hand his team a 3-2 win over FC Dallas.

With first-choice goalkeeper Nick Rimando away on international duty, Reynish was given the nod in goal, and he nearly made a terrible error in the 85th minute to cost his team three points.

A shot from the edge of the penalty area from Blas Perez was hit straight at Reynish, but he appeared to be caught off guard and allowed it to go in off his arm.

But a failed clearance in stoppage time by a Dallas defender handed Borchers a chance to snatch back all three points, and he dispatched his shot in the top corner of the net to extend RSL's unbeaten run to six games, letting Reynish off the hook.

Perez was the most dangerous man for either side in a scoreless first half, but it wasn't until after the break that the match really picked up.

Alvaro Saborio scored the first of his two goals just before the hour mark when he sent a glancing header past goalkeeper Kevin Hartman from close range after a cross from Terukazu Tanaka.

The lead held up until the final 15 minutes when Dallas equalized through Matt Hedges, who scored from a tight angle despite the efforts of Reynish to palm the ball out before it crossed the goal line.

Saborio had an answer less than two minutes later when he beat Hartman at his near post after taking a pass from Ned Grabavoy for his second goal of the contest.

Reynish then gifted Dallas the equalizer five minutes from time, while Fabian Espindola saw his header come back off the crossbar for Salt Lake in the 90th minute.

But the Hoops returned the favor and handed Borchers the chance to win the game as a failed clearance saw Borchers find the net from 12 yards to extend the winless streak of Dallas to nine games.
