Carr lifts Dynamo over 10-man Sporting at BBVA

Jul 19, 2012 - 2:51 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Calen Carr scored his first two goals this year as the Houston Dynamo downed 10-man Sporting Kansas City, 2-1, on Wednesday in MLS to remain unbeaten at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Carr scored in the 25th and 79th minutes, helping the Dynamo win for the sixth time against three draws in nine matches at their new stadium.

Houston (8-5-7) also extended its overall undefeated streak to five games, and moved within five points of Kansas City for first in the Eastern Conference.

Sporting (11-6-3) lost for the third time in its last six league games, and is just one point clear of Red Bull New York, which downed the Chicago Fire, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Carr opened the scoring midway through the first half following a nice play on the right from Houston. Will Bruin delivered the last pass from the right edge of the area, and Carr slotted to the bottom left.

Sporting pulled even before halftime from the penalty spot. Andre Hainault was called for a fouled on Jacob Peterson and Kei Kamara buried the penalty to the bottom right for his team-high seventh goal.

Kansas City went down a man before half, though, when Peterson Joseph received a red card for a hard tackle on Carr near the sideline.

Sporting avoided falling behind in the 65th when goalie Jimmy Nielsen pushed a deflected shot off the frame, but Houston eventually took advantage of the man advantage to find a winner.

Carr helped set up his own goal with a pass to Brad Davis on the left, and got a return pass in the middle to direct a shot into the bottom-right corner from the top of the 6-yard box.

Houston will go for its third straight win Saturday when it hosts the Montreal Impact. Sporting hosts New England on Saturday, when it will need a victory to assure its place atop the standings.
