Nagbe's late strike helps Portland draw TFC
Aug 16, 2012 - 1:39 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Darlington Nagbe denied Toronto FC three vital points at home as he struck in the 82nd minute to help the Portland Timbers claim a 2-2 draw at BMO Field on Wednesday.Sal Zizzo handed Portland a first-half lead only for Eric Hassli and Luis Silva to put the home side in front with goals six minutes apart in the second half.
Toronto held that lead until the final minutes when Nagbe netted his fourth goal of the season.
Portland (5-12-6) and Toronto (5-13-5) remain at the bottom of their respective conferences as the Timbers stay at the foot of the West with 21 points while the Canadian club bottoms the East on 20 points.
The Timbers went in front in the 21st minute when they scored just their third away goal of the season.
A corner kick was not cleared by the Toronto defense and Zizzo, who was denied by a goal-line stop, swept home the loose ball on his second attempt for his first goal of the campaign.
That lead lasted until the 57th minute when Hassli marked his home TFC debut with a goal, stuffing a rebound past Donovan Ricketts.
Silva handed Toronto the lead shortly after, getting on the end of dangerous delivery in front of goal to poke his effort past Ricketts.
It was not enough to claim three points though, as Nagbe capped a well-worked move to calmly convert Steven Smith's centering pass eight minutes from time.
