Dallas hoping for redemption against Galaxy
Aug 25, 2012 - 1:12 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - FC Dallas visits The Home Depot Center on Sunday to face the Los Angeles Galaxy, and Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman is hoping the match provides a chance for his side to atone for their 1-0 defeat against the Galaxy last month. The Hoops were in the midst of attempting to turn their season around after a run of just two wins in 16 games, and the 1-0 home defeat was a bit of a setback for a team that was trying to get on the right track.
But since that time, Dallas has claimed 10 points from its last four games, including wins in its last three, and Hyndman is expecting the Galaxy to attack his team much like they did last month.
"They will come back out and pressure us again," Hyndman said of what he expects the Galaxy to do in Sunday's match. "Whether [Landon] Donovan is on the field or [David] Beckham is on the field, I think the whole mentality is 'Look, this is a team who didn't handle our pressure well, let's go out and pressure them again'.
The July defeat was even more disappointing for the coach because he says that for the first time this season, his side was outworked.
"For us it was a disappointing result, but at the same time it was an unusual, uncharacteristic effort on our part," Hyndman said.
The Galaxy is five points clear of FC Dallas entering Sunday's match, and LA would love to put an end to Dallas' current surge and keep the club at a safe distance in the race for playoff positioning.
But Bruce Arena's team will be playing on short rest after an impressive 5-2 win over Isidro Metapan in CONCACAF Champions League play on Thursday.
Captain Landon Donovan was held out of the match due to a hamstring strain, and Arena said on Friday that it was unclear whether or not Donovan would take part in the match on Sunday.
With three wins from its last five games and eight matches remaining in the season, Sunday would be a good time for the Galaxy to begin its push toward securing a playoff spot as the club attempts to defend its MLS Cup title.
