RSL hammers Chivas behind Saborio's hat trick

Sep 30, 2012 - 4:34 AM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Alvaro Saborio announced his return to the Real Salt Lake lineup in a big way on Saturday, netting a hat trick in his team's 4-0 win over Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center.

Saborio spent the past three weeks out with a shoulder injury, but he made a quick impact by scoring twice in the first 12 minutes and then completing his hat trick in the second half.

Paulo Jr. capped the scoring nine minutes from time for RSL, which moved into second place in the Western Conference with the win.

Chivas remains on the bottom of the table having lost its last six games.

Fabian Espindola also had a big night for Salt Lake as he assisted on three of the four goals, including the opener in the eighth minute.

His cross into the area was flicked on by Javier Morales, allowing Saborio to pounce for his 15th goal of the campaign.

The striker was on target again four minutes later and once again it came from Espindola, who stole the ball in the attacking third and provided the cross for Saborio to finish off with his left foot.

Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy kept out Saborio's header in the 52nd minute, but he was picking the ball out of his net midway through the second half when he denied Luis Gil, only for Saborio to score on the rebound.

Espindola played provider one more time in the last 10 minutes, slipping a through ball behind the defense for Paulo Jr. to fire past Kennedy from the right side of the area.
