FC Dallas continues playoff push against Chivas USA
Oct 5, 2012 - 8:47 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - FC Dallas earned an important point at San Jose last weekend, and will try to continue its last-season playoff push Sunday at Chivas USA.Dallas tied the Earthquakes, 3-3, at Buck Shaw Stadium to improve to 4-1-3 in its last eight matches. With three games remaining in the season, Dallas could overtake Vancouver Whitecaps FC for fifth place in the Western Conference.
Vancouver beat Chivas USA, 4-0, on Wednesday to establish a five-point cushion over Dallas for the final postseason spot from the conference. Now, Dallas can get back within two points with a win over Chivas at The Home Depot Center.
"We can't have negative thoughts, from now we have to think positive," Dallas striker Blas Perez said.
FC Dallas (9-12-10) visits Seattle Sounders FC on Oct. 21, and welcomes Chivas USA to Texas on Oct. 28 in the regular-season finale. The game against Seattle will be tough, but FCD is in good position to pick up points.
"It's nine points, and we have to get those nine points," Perez said.
Vancouver hosts the Portland Timbers on Oct. 27, and ends the regular season at Real Salt lake on Oct. 27.
Chivas USA (7-17-7) has been abysmal of late, losing its last seven fixtures during an 11-game winless streak. Chivas has been shutout in six of its last seven games, scoring just one goal during that stretch.
The Goats also play the Colorado Rapids at home, in addition to the other game against Dallas, and will try to end on a positive note. But with just 21 goals scored all season and a 3-10-2 record at home, the projections are not good.
Last in the West on just 28 points from 31 games, Chivas could still climb to seventh over the final weeks of the season.
