Chivas looking for answers ahead of FCD contest
Mar 8, 2013 - 7:48 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA head coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola believes his team has a lot of room for improvement after opening the campaign with a 3-0 home defeat against the Columbus Crew.So when the Goats welcome FC Dallas to The Home Depot Center on Sunday, Sanchez Sola hopes to have some answers.
"We have to adapt before the next match to get points," Sanchez Sola said following the Columbus defeat. "I can't make a prediction about how long it will take us to make adjustments. This is about the now. Our players deserve that we make changes now. I've got to get all of the stupidities out of my head and help my players."
Judging by the outcome of Chivas' first game, Sanchez Sola has a lot of work to do.
After a scoreless first half, Chivas yielded three second-half goals and produced few scoring chances of their own, giving fans of the club little reason to believe that playoff contention is possible this season.
"I can't say how disappointed I am," said Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy. "I can't even express it. I came in really excited about this game and wanting to get a win or at least a result, a tie. There's plenty of soccer to be played. Hopefully we have a quick learning curve for all of the guys that are new. Now they understand how physical and how cruel this league can be."
Chivas and Sanchez Sola are now aware of the size of the task in front of them, and it won't get much easier on Sunday against Dallas.
The Hoops opened their 2013 campaign with a fortuitous 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids as Jackson scored the lone goal in the 11th minute after a goalkeeping error from the Rapids Steward Ceus.
There wasn't a lot to choose between the two teams as the match had little flow and see few clear-cut scoring chances.
Jackson acknowledged that it wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing effort from his side, but the fact that they were able to come away with three points is the most important thing.
"There is still a lot of work to be done but we showed a lot of will and determination to [get the] win, and the three points is all that matters," Jackson said.
