Dynamo top Earthquakes to match league record

Mar 31, 2013 - 2:41 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Will Bruin and Giles Barnes netted first-half goals as the Houston Dynamo matched an MLS record by extending their home unbeaten streak to 34 straight games across all competitions with a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Coming off an impressive 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps last time out, the victory also extends Houston's unbeaten run in league play to 28 consecutive matches and is their second straight win after dropping a 3-2 result to FC Dallas on March 17.

Houston opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Boniek Garcia sent a low cross into the San Jose penalty area and Bruin fired it past Jon Busch with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner for the 1-0 lead.

The Dynamo made it 2-0 three minutes before the interval as Brad Davis floated a perfectly-weighted cross into the box and Barnes rushed in to nod it past Busch for the two-goal margin.

After the break, San Jose had a few quality chances with the best one coming in stoppage time as Chris Wondolowski got his head to a Sam Cronin cross in the box, but it clanged off the woodwork and stayed out as Houston held on for the three points.

The Dynamo rise to second place in the East with nine points from four matches, while San Jose remains on seven points from five matches.
