Fagundez, Nguyen help Revs down Union

Apr 28, 2013 - 1:47 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution put their scoring woes to bed on Saturday as Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen scored a goal apiece to lead their side to a 2-0 defeat of the Philadelphia Union.

New England came into the match with just two goals scored through its first six games of the season, one of which was the result of an own goal from Red Bull New York last week.

It looked like the club's finishing touch would be elusive for another week after Gillette Stadium saw a scoreless first half against visiting Philadelphia, but the Revs grabbed the lead just after the hour mark thanks to a well-worked move down the right flank.

Kelyn Rowe was released into space on the right side of the penalty area thanks to a perfectly-weighted through ball from Nguyen. Rowe then picked out Fagundez at the near post, allowing the young striker to turn the low cross into the back of the net.

Nguyen turned scorer 10 minutes later by capitalizing on Zac MacMath's save off of Saer Sene's shot. The rebound trickled to the top of the six-yard box and Nguyen pounced on the loose ball to give the Revs their first multi-goal game of the year.

The win sees New England (2-3-2) improve to eight points on the season, bringing the club to within tree points of Philadelphia (3-3-2).
