Henry's double helps New York hold off Montreal
May 9, 2013 - 1:43 AM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Thierry Henry netted a goal in each half to propel Red Bull New York to a 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact in a battle of teams tied atop the Eastern Conference.Sanna Nyassi went close for the Impact in the first half when his first-time effort struck the crossbar, but New York hit in first-half stoppage time to take the 1-0 lead.
Eric Alexander got into the area and smacked a shot off the crossbar for the Red Bulls. But Fabian Espindola was on hand to collect the rebound and pull it back to Henry, who scored from six yards.
New York went close through Jamison Olave with 20 minutes to play, but the second goal arrived in acrobatic fashion a few minutes from time.
Juninho played a corner kick to the near post, allowing Markus Holgersson to flick it on for Henry, who scored with a fantastic overhead kick that gave goalkeeper Troy Perkins no chance.
Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles handed Montreal a lifeline in the 90th minute when his giveaway when straight to Justin Mapp, who slid a pass into the area for Marco Di Vaio to finish off.
However, New York held on for its fourth successive win to remain at the top of the East.
