Garcia lifts RSL over Revolution

May 9, 2013 - 2:15 AM Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - Olmes Garcia's goal in the final minute of normal time lifted Real Salt Lake to a dramatic 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, New England opened the scoring in the 51st minute as Kelyn Rowe came streaking down the right flank leading the counter attack. He picked out a completely unmarked Ryan Guy, who smacked it first- time past RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando for the 1-0 lead.

But Real Salt Lake grabbed an equalizer in the 77th minute when the Revolution were unable to clear their lines and Devon Sandoval pounced on a loose ball in the box and ripped it past New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth for his first career goal.

The visitors took the lead in the final minute of regular time when Kyle Beckerman cracked a first-time shot on goal that Shuttleworth was able to stop, but Garcia smashed home the rebound to give RSL the lead late on.

New England had a golden opportunity to steal a point in stoppage time when referee Jose Carlos Rivero awarded the Revs a penalty kick for a foul in the box by Real Salt Lake.

Saer Sene stepped up to take the shot, but telegraphed his shot and Rimando got down to his right quickly to make the save and preserve three points for his side.
