Cooper's PK helps FCD draw Timbers

May 9, 2013 - 3:07 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Kenny Cooper's late second-half penalty kick salvaged a point for FC Dallas in a 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers on Wednesday at FC Dallas Stadium.

Both teams came in riding impressive seven-game unbeaten runs in league play and both streaks were extended by one as Darlington Nagbe and Cooper exchanged goals seven minutes apart.

Chances were few and far between for both clubs and it took until the 70th minute for the deadlock to be broken by the Timbers.

Rodney Wallace keyed the Timbers goal as he fought off some pressure in the Dallas box and lofted a left-footed cross across the area where Nagbe was there to volley it past Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez for the 1-0 advantage. It was Nagbe's third goal of the season and 11th in his career with the Timbers.

But Dallas was given a lifeline seven minutes later after referee Juan Guzman whistled Portland defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste for a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the home side.

Cooper stepped up to take the kick and calmly buried it with pace past Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to put the sides back on level terms.

Dallas sent numbers forward in search of a winner and had a corner kick deep in stoppage time, but Jair Benitez's shot following the corner sailed over the crossbar and the clubs settled for a point apiece.
