Kamara rescues Sporting against Dynamo

May 26, 2013 - 10:02 PM Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - Kei Kamara netted his first goal this season for Sporting Kansas City, helping the club salvage a point against the Houston Dynamo in a thrilling 1-1 draw on Sunday at Sporting Park.

The fan favorite, Kamara, recently returned from his loan spell with Premier League side Norwich City and made sure Sporting collected a point with his tally in the 68th minute.

Houston had the better of the play early on and had the first excellent chance of the afternoon in the seventh minute as Brad Davis unleashed a well-struck free kick, but it skittered wide of the right post.

Controversy arose five minutes before the halftime break when Davis was put through on goal and Sporting's Oriol Rosell broke up his scoring chance with an expertly-timed challenge on the ball in the penalty area.

Referee Drew Fischer whistled a foul on Rosell and immediately pointed to the spot, awarding a penalty kick to Houston, but the call was overturned by the assistant referee.

The Dynamo shook off the reversal of the call and struck first in first-half stoppage time as Will Bruin brought down a ball with his back to goal and slid it to Davis, who fired it past Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen to the near post.

But Sporting found its equalizer in the 68th minute as Kamara ripped a left- footed strike past Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall low to the right corner to make it 1-1.

Both sides had chances over the final 20 minutes but a winner could not be found as the clubs settled for a share of the points.
