Vancouver ends New York's unbeaten run
Jun 2, 2013 - 1:09 AM Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Red Bull New York's seven-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as the club fell to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a 2-1 loss at Red Bull Arena.Jordan Harvey canceled out Greg Klazura's own goal early on in the second half, but it was Kenny Miller who proved to be most influential in the closing stages. Not only did the Whitecaps striker get Jamison Olave sent off, but he notched the game-winning goal seven minutes from time to help Vancouver claim its first road victory of the season.
Vancouver (4-4-4) climbs to 16 points to move closer to a spot in the playoff picture while New York (7-5-4) remains on 25 points.
The Red Bulls failed to break the deadlock in the first half despite turning out a dominant display, but a gift from the 'Caps defense granted the home side the lead six minutes after the halftime interval.
Thierry Henry threaded an inch-perfect through ball for Jonny Steele, who had his square pass turned into the net by Klazura.
His blushes were spared seven minutes later when Harvey brought Vancouver back on equal terms. The 'Caps defender made the most of Eric Alexander's poor clearance by hammering a first-time shot into the roof of the net, leaving Luis Robles with no chance at a save.
New York was dealt a major blow in the 75th minute when Olave was issued a second yellow card for a soft challenge on Miller, allowing the Whitecaps to make use of the extra man and grab the lead eight minutes later.
It was Miller who provided the telling strike, taking advantage of some slack defending from Kosuke Kimura to nod home a cross from Russell Teibert for his third league goal of the season.
