Miller shines as 'Caps rally past 10-man Revs
Jun 16, 2013 - 4:08 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Kenny Miller sparked a rally for Vancouver Whitecaps FC that saw the club come from two goals down to claim a 4-3 win over the New England Revolution at BC Place on Saturday. After the Whitecaps fell behind 2-0 in the first 20 minutes, Miller drew a foul on New England's Andrew Farrell inside the penalty area, earning a penalty kick for his team and dooming Farrell to a straight red card.
The incident changed the match, and after Camilo scored from the penalty spot, Miller equalized in the 39th minute before a Jordan Harvey goal a few minutes later.
Miller capped his standout performance in the 68th with his fifth goal in six games, while Dimitry Imbongo's 84th-minute goal for the Revs wasn't enough to extend the team's five-match unbeaten run.
The Revs came into Saturday's contest having posted four successive clean sheets, and the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Juan Agudelo and Kelyn Rowe inside of 20 minutes.
But after Farrell was sent off in the 23rd for his foul on Miller, Camilo fired home the spot kick to make it 2-1.
Miller then netted a brilliant individual goal in the 39th when he looped the ball over the head of a defender and slotted his shot inside the right post.
The home side seized the advantage a few minutes before the break when Russell Teibert's right-wing cross was lofted to the back post for Harvey, who arrived to provide the final touch from close range.
Vancouver was unable to pull away until the 68th when Miller once more made a fantastic solo play to secure the win.
Camilo's long ball from midfield was retrieved by Miller, and after taking a touch to control it, he floated a volley over the head of goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth for a sublime finish before the consolation tally from Imbongo.
