Revs tangle with Chivas following Open Cup defeat

Jun 28, 2013 - 9:12 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA head coach Jose Luis Real is still searching for his first win as Goats boss, and he hopes it will come on Saturday against the New England Revolution at the StubHub Center.

Chivas is in the midst of a terrible run of form having lost its last seven games, while the club's 10-match winless streak in league play stretches all the way back to March 30 with a 2-1 win over Vancouver.

The Goats latest setback came in a 1-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Galaxy in the second installment of this season's SuperClasico, and forward Tristan Bowen knows things won't get any easier in the near future.

"We have to keep grinding," said Bowen. "The guys are full of fight and we are definitely not going out there and giving up. The results are just not there right now, so we just have to keep fighting and keep moving forward."

Chivas is in the midst of transitioning from one head coach to another after Real took over for Jose Luis Sanchez Sola on May 29, and Bowen feels his team is beginning to settle into new roles under Real.

"Everyone knows their role," Bowen said. "Everyone knows what we're trying to do, everything is clearly defined. Players are going out there and doing what we're told. Obviously, once you do that the team is starting to jell a little bit better. But as I said, we just have to do better."

New England's last league match came two weeks ago in a 4-3 defeat at Vancouver that marked the first game in a stretch of five away matches in seven fixtures.

The Revs had kept four straight clean sheets before giving away four goals to the Whitecaps, and the team will also be trying to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to D.C. United in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup in midweek.

United used second-half goals from Dwayne De Rosario and Lionard Pajoy to claim the two-goal victory, and Revs defender A.J. Soares thinks his team has already been able to put the Open Cup defeat behind them and return focus to league play.

"We're professionals. We're going to let it go right now, tonight, and start thinking about the Chivas game," Soares said following Wednesday night's defeat. "This game's over already in my mind. We're all focused on the Chivas game. We're going to do whatever we can to keep moving up the table in the league and Open Cup is over for us. We'll think about it next year, but from now on it's done."
