Perez rescues 10-man FC Dallas in draw with Union
Jun 30, 2013 - 12:16 AM Chester, PA (Sports Network) - Blas Perez's tally in stoppage time rescued a valuable point for 10-man FC Dallas in a thrilling 2-2 draw with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at PPL Park.Philadelphia opened the scoring in the 20th minute when right back Sheanon Williams launched a long throw-in from the right sideline into the box and Amobi Okugo got his head to it, nodding it past FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.
But just four minutes later FC Dallas found an equalizer when Michel smashed a long free kick into the Philadelphia penalty area and Walker Zimmerman directed it into the bottom left corner to put the sides back on level terms.
Things turned in favor of the Union in the 68th minute when FCD's Je-Vaughn Watson was issued a second yellow card by referee Allen Chapman for diving, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
The Union scored what looked to be a winner in the 87th minute as Williams served a nice ball into the box and Aaron Wheeler nodded it home for his first career goal.
FC Dallas appeared to find an equalizer just moments later as Perez got on the end of a loose ball and flicked it on goal. The ball appeared to cross the line, but Williams cleared it away.
But with their last gasp on a free kick deep in stoppage time, it was Perez that got on the end of a fumbled clearance by Philadelphia goalkeeper Zac MacMath to head it home, breaking the hearts of the 18,212 in attendance.
