Kamara's brace sinks Crew
Jun 30, 2013 - 2:36 AM Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - Kei Kamara's goal 10 minutes from time allowed Sporting Kansas City to snap a four-game winless run by claiming a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Crew at Sporting Park on Saturday.Kamara netted the opening goal in the match in the 34th minute before a wild start to the second half saw the teams combine for three goals in the span of five minutes.
Jairo Arrieta briefly leveled the contest in the 48th, but Claudio Bieler answered right back for Sporting in the 50th.
Dominic Oduro brought Columbus back to level terms in the 53rd, but Kamara popped up in the right spot 10 minutes from time to move Kansas City to within two points of Eastern Conference leaders Montreal.
Soony Saad set up Kamara's first tally with a long ball that the forward brought down inside the box and fired past goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum with his left foot.
Arrieta's nice individual effort shortly after the break evened things at 1-1 as he carried the ball to the edge of the penalty area and danced past a defender before slotting his shot past goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.
A deflected cross from Chance Myers a few minutes later allowed Bieler to score on the half-volley, restoring Sporting's lead.
Seth Sinovic handed the goal back in the 53rd with a poor backpass that was cut out by Oduro, who rounded Nielsen and rolled in the equalizer.
But the Crew was unable to keep hold of a point as the defense failed to deal with a cross from Kevin Ellis, allowing Bieler to knock down the clearing attempt and give Kamara a simple finish from eight yards.
The result hands Columbus its third defeat in the last four games.
