Morales helps RSL snap Dallas jinx

Jul 14, 2013 - 3:12 AM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Javier Morales scored a goal and set up two more as Real Salt Lake consolidated its place atop the Western Conference with a 3-0 win at second-place FC Dallas on Saturday.

Salt Lake entered the contest with a three-point lead on the home side, and Morales put RSL in front with his fifth goal of the season in the 39th minute before he had a hand in Ned Grabavoy's tally 11 minutes from time as well as a late goal for substitute Olmes Garcia.

The result extends RSL's unbeaten streak to eight games, while Dallas is winless in its last seven matches and falls six points back of Salt Lake.

Dallas put together a good opening 30 minutes but failed to take advantage of its chances, with Kenny Cooper sending a volley wide from six yards.

And the visitors surged into the lead in the 39th on the counter attack as Morales got into the penalty area on the left and rolled his shot between the legs of a Dallas defender and inside the far post.

RSL goalkeeper Josh Saunders had to be replaced early in the second half by Jeff Attinella because of a knee injury, and Attinella came up with a few big saves in his MLS debut, while Grabavoy doubled the lead in the 79th when he collected a pass near the penalty spot from Abdoulie Mansally and lashed the ball inside the right post.

Garcia then capped the scoring in the 90th minute with a sharp finish from 14 yards as Morales once again played a role in the build up.

The win also snaps a run of futility at FC Dallas with RSL winning for the first time in 12 matches at FC Dallas Stadium.
