Galaxy hopes to cool off 'Caps
Jul 19, 2013 - 9:38 PM Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC is hoping to continue a great run of form when the club invades the StubHub Center to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Whitecaps have been making a steady ascent up the Western Conference table with a run of five wins and one draw in their last six games, a run that has moved Vancouver past the Galaxy and into third place.
Camilo has been a big reason for the success of Vancouver as he has caught fire in recent weeks, tallying nine goals in the last seven games to lead the way.
That run has vaulted Camilo to the top of the Golden Boot chart, but he says the success of the team is much more important than an individual pursuit.
"For me that is not important," Camilo said when asked about competing for the Golden Boot. "More important for me is that our club gets up on the table. We are third place [in the Western Conference].
"We play as a club and I'm happy to help the club."
The Galaxy is entering Saturday's match after a disappointing 2-1 defeat to the Portland Timbers that saw the club concede a goal to Portland's Andrew- Jean Baptiste in the dying moments, which continues a worrying trend of dropped points because of late goals for Los Angeles.
"I'm not sure what to say. I can't explain it. It's happened again. It's happened too many times this year, so we certainly didn't expect it to happen again tonight because we played well and certainly didn't deserve to lose again," Galaxy forward Robbie Keane said. "It was the last kick of the game and the same old story; a set piece and then you score. So, it's obviously disappointing."
Los Angeles enters the weekend in fifth place, two points back of Vancouver, and the club will at least have the services of defender Omar Gonzalez for Saturday's game before he leaves to play for the United States in the Gold Cup.
Saturday's match marks the second meeting of the two teams this season after the Whitecaps claimed a 3-1 victory behind two goals from Russell Teibert in May.
That result snapped a dismal run for Vancouver against the Galaxy, which had gone 4-0-1 against the Whitecaps in their previous five meetings, outscoring the Canadian side 14-2.
