Doyle sparks United to win over Montreal
Aug 4, 2013 - 1:37 AM Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - D.C. United claimed its third win of the season on Saturday as rookie Conor Doyle came off the bench to tally a goal and an assist, leading United to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact at RFK Stadium.Luis Silva continued his hot start to life at United as he opened the scoring in the 19th minute to notch his third goal in as many games since arriving from Toronto FC.
Montreal goalkeeper Troy Perkins did well to keep his side in the game with some important saves prior to halftime, and Jeb Brovsky equalized shortly after the break after he was set up by Davy Arnaud.
But the introduction of Doyle in the 64th minute had a big impact as the rookie netted his first MLS goal in the 68th minute by turning home a low cross from James Riley at the near post.
The Impact threw men forward in the closing minutes in an attempt to level the contest, and United took advantage by hitting on the break to wrap up the win, with Doyle setting up a tap in for Jared Jeffrey to cap the victory in stoppage time.
Montreal has now won just one of its last six games in league play.
