L.A. returns to action to face struggling Dallas

Aug 9, 2013 - 9:13 PM Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy will return from a competitive layoff to face a stagnant FC Dallas side at FC Dallas Stadium on Sunday.

Los Angeles last featured in an MLS regular season contest on July 27 when it suffered a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, a sixth straight defeat away from the StubHub Center.

During the hiatus, the Galaxy have been competing in a summer showcase of friendly matches against some of the world's best clubs.

According to Galaxy talisman Landon Donovan, the competition was a perfect way to help the club prepare for the final run-in of MLS matches this term.

"We have 12 games left in our season and the biggest one on the horizon is Sunday in Dallas so this is almost perfect preparation for that," Donovan said in Florida earlier this week. "It's nice to get out with the guys on the road for a week just to have some camaraderie and hang out. We're looking forward to the rest of the year."

Los Angeles comes into the match in fourth place in the Western Conference, but Donovan revealed that the visitors will have employ a bit of gamesmanship in order to get an effective result in a difficult climate.

"We're going to have to be smart in Dallas," said Donovan. "It's not the type of game where the conditions allow you to really press and be aggressive for 90 minutes, so you have to be careful. We can learn a little bit from (what we experienced against AC Milan). I think that we're confident."

The Galaxy will come up against an FC Dallas side that has struggled mightily to find the back of the net.

Dallas enters the weekend without a goal in its last five league matches, but playmaker David Ferreira is confident that the club can overcome its recent shortcomings in front of goal.

"There's no doubt about it, I definitely think we can turn this around," Ferreira told the club's official website. "We have a great and strong team full of talented players. There's still time, I think we have what it takes. It's been a rough few matches, but with hard work and dedication we can turn it around and bring positive results."
