Record-breaking Dwyer helps SKC rout Chivas

Sep 13, 2014 - 4:37 AM Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sporting Kansas City snapped a four-game losing skid in emphatic fashion on Friday, claiming a 4-0 victory over Chivas USA at the StubHub Center.

Dom Dwyer played a starring role in the momentous win, breaking the deadlock five minutes before the halftime interval to break the franchise scoring record with his 19th goal of the campaign.

Sporting went on to cruise to victory with Benny Feilhaber, Graham Zusi and Antonio Dovale adding a goal apiece to ensure the three points.

Kansas City (13-10-6) improves to 45 points on the season to move to within two points of first-place D.C. United.

Chivas (6-16-6) drops its fifth straight in MLS play to remain at the foot of the Western Conference table with 24 points.

Sporting was held in check until the 40th minute when Dwyer latched on to Paulo Nagamura's long ball, went around the on-rushing Dan Kennedy and slipped a shot into the empty net for his record-breaking goal.

Kansas City managed to add to the lead before the close of the opening period as Antonio Dovale's shot off the post in the 45th minute was turned in by Feilhaber.

The visitors wasted little time in adding to their lead on the opposite side of halftime as Zusi cut inside from the left flank in the 52nd minute and blasted a shot past Kennedy to put Sporting's victory beyond any doubt.

Dovale wrapped up the affair late on, finding the back of the net with just his second goal of the campaign.
