Klein's game-winner paces Galaxy past Dallas

Sep 24, 2007 - 4:02 AM CARSON, California (Ticker) -- Chris Klein's goal in the 72nd minute broke a tie and gave the Los Angeles Galaxy a rare win on Sunday over FC Dallas.

The 2-1 victory is just the second win in Los Angeles' (5-13-6) last 12 games and also prevented Dallas (12-10-4) from clinching a playoff spot. FC Dallas had also defeated the Galaxy in each of the team's previous two meetings this season.

Klein received a pass from Cobi Jones on the right side of the 18-yard box and blasted a shot into the upper-right hand corner just past the outstretched hand of Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala.

"Cobi did a great job of getting the ball to me and creating space for us," Klein said. "I thought about hitting it first time but I took a touch and kept my head down."

Even with the win, the Galaxy are still 10 points out of the final playoff spot with just six games to play.

"I am just happy to get the result," Klein said. "I think we've been playing better lately and just not getting the results."

FC Dallas got on the board first in the 11th minute. Chris Gbandi sent a cross into the box from the left side which Carlos Ruiz let slide by to Dax McCarty, who put the ball past Galaxy goalkeeper Joe Cannon for his first career MLS goal.

Los Angeles tied it up at 1-1 in the 25th minute when Landon Donovan converted his second penalty kick in as many games.

Donovan had sent a free kick into the goal area, where Gbandi pushed down Galaxy striker Alan Gordon to prevent a clear header opportunity. Gbandi also received his second yellow card of the game for the foul and Dallas was forced to play with 10 men for the rest of the contest.

"I told the guys at half time you're not going to get a better chance then this of getting three points at home against 10 men," Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said. "And in the second half I thought we did a better job."

"I was proud of the team tonight," Donovan said. "The penalty gave us some momentum and the red card also, we needed that."
