Red Bulls roll past 'Quakes

Apr 18, 2015 - 1:19 AM Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Sacha Kljestan and Mike Grella both scored goals in the first half as the Red Bulls cruised to a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earth Quakes at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls dominated the first half, creating several quality scoring chances and keeping most of the possession. The hosts opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Lloyd Sam pushed a low cross into the penalty area where Bradley Wright-Phillips attempted to get a foot on it, but it deflected into the path of Kljestan, who was left with an open net for an easy finish.

Then about six minutes later Sam sent a cross from the right side into the box where Grella was waiting to punch it in to give the Red Bulls a two-goal lead.

The only sign of life for San Jose came in stoppage time when Innocent Emeghara had a header chance that New York goalkeeper Luis Robles swallowed up.

In the early minutes of the second half, a high cross came to Damien Perrinelle who pushed the ball towards the net but Bingham was there to push it over the net. Emeghara and Chris Wondolowski combined for an excellent opportunity to get the Earthquakes back into the game but the chance was well defended.

Emeghara recorded another chance in the 82nd minute attacking from the near post, but the strike from close range was parried out of play by Robles, and the rebound effort went wide of the frame. This would be as close as the Earthquakes would get as the Red Bulls remain undefeated in 2015 season.

San Jose has lost three of its last four matches and will aim to get back on the winning track next week against the Montreal Impact.
