Jets sign Finnish striker Kokko
Aug 15, 2016 - 11:00 PM Newcastle Jets have further bolstered their A-League attack, signing 29-year-old Finnish striker Aleksandr Kokko on a two-year deal. The signing means the Jets could play an all-Scandinavian front line in the new season with Kokko joining Danish marksman Morten Nordstrand up front.
Kokko arrived in Newcastle at the weekend and completed his medical after scoring three goals in his last three games with RoPS in Finland's Veikkausliiga.
Kokko - who has twice finished as the Veikkausliiga's top goal-scorer - scored nine times in 15 matches in 2016 before commencing his new adventure in Australia.
He is targeting immediate success for the Jets, who are looking to improve their lot after missing the finals in each of the last six A-League seasons.
"It's nice to be here," Kokko said.
"From my first training session, my first game I want to show that I can be good in Australia.
"I am a target player who likes to play with the ball on the ground."
Newcastle Jets coach Scott Miller believes the Finn will prove a valuable addition.
"We believe that Aleksandr possesses the right technical qualities that we require from our striker," Miller said.
