Sunderland's Moyes gets one-match ban

Nov 1, 2016 - 6:54 PM David Moyes' problems as manager of struggling English Premier League club Sunderland have escalated after he was handed a one-match touchline ban for verbally abusing a match official.

Moyes was sent to the stands after remonstrating to the fourth official following a decision by referee Chris Kavanagh not to award Sunderland a penalty late in the team's 1-0 loss at Southampton in the last 16 of the English League Cup last week.

Moyes admitted to a charge of misconduct and also received a fine of STG8,000 ($A12,800) pounds to go with his suspension, which means he will not be on the touchline for Sunderland's Premier League game at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Sunderland is in last place in the league on two points, giving them their worst start to an EPL season after 10 games.
