Mourinho, Wenger end all square
Nov 19, 2016 - 3:17 PM Olivier Giroud headed home an 89th-minute equaliser to earn Arsenal a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Saturday.Just when it seemed Jose Mourinho would again prevail in his long-standing feud with Arsene Wenger thanks to a second half Juan Mata goal, Giroud popped up to head home fellow substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross.
United had largely dominated proceedings and looked set to bring relief to Mourinho after an inconsistent start to the season when Mata struck in the 68th minute.
"This team at the moment is the unluckiest team in the Premier League," Mourinho said.
The win improves Mourinho's unbeaten league record against Wenger to 12, while Arsenal stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 17.
"Of course, it is two points dropped. We were the best team by far. They had no chances to win. They could not be Arsenal the way they normally play football," Mourinho said.
Wenger saluted his side's "good spirit" to keep plugging away in a game where they were a distant second-best.
"We have shown steel. We want style as well but we had more steel than style today," he said.
Wayne Rooney was brought on as a substitute in the second half, following a week when he had been forced to apologise for his late night socialising on England duty.
His introduction livened up United before Mata, the midfielder sold by Mourinho when at Chelsea, scored the first goal of the game.
Wenger has never had much luck against Mourinho but his substitutions did the trick with Oxlade-Chamberlain causing havoc down the right, floating in a fine cross and watching Giroud head home his 10th goal for Arsenal.
