No return of the Jedi as Villa thump Wigan
Aug 22, 2017 - 9:18 PM Mile Jedinak was again sidelined with injury as his Aston Villa side thrashed Wigan 4-1 in the second round of the League Cup in Birmingham. The Socceroos skipper is yet to play this season after suffering a recurrence of a groin injury during Australia's last World Cup qualifier in June.
Villa's Cup tie was effectively a fitness test for the Socceroos veteran who was subsequently left out of coach Ange Postecoglou's Australian squad for crunch World Cup qualifiers and against Japan and Thailand.
It remains to be seen if Jedinak will be fit to play in second-tier Villa's next match against fellow Socceroo Bailey Wright's Bristol City in the English Championship this weekend.
Bristol eliminated Premier League side Watford from the League Cup with a 3-2 win on Tuesday.
They were the only top-flight casualty with Crystal Palace, Socceroos gloveman Mat Ryan's Brighton, West Brom, Leicester, Bournemouth and Swansea all winning their matches.
