Kurz confident of Reds A-League turnaround
Nov 4, 2017 - 9:46 PM Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz has admitted Saturday night's 1-0 loss at Perth was his team's worst performance of the A-League season.Adelaide had chances to go ahead midway through the second half at nib Stadum but Kurz was under no illusions that had they got anything out of the game, it would have been a bonus.
It was brilliant goalkeeping by Paul Izzo, who saved a Diego Castro penalty, and some lacklustre Glory finishing that kept Adelaide -- who were missing Taylor Regan, Vince Lia, Baba Diawara, Johan Absalonsen and Ersan Gulum -- in the contest.
The loss leaves the Reds with one win from five games but Kurz was realistic about his team's performance in Perth.
"In your soccer life you have days where you play bad and this was one of them for us," Kurz said.
"If we did get a point it would have been more because of luck.
"In the first half Perth had a lot of chances especially in the first five minutes, including the penalty.
"But we did have two good attacks with George Blackwood and Nikola (Mileusnic) after 70 or 74 minutes, we could have scored a goal, but that's not enough for a draw or a point.
"That's the result."
Earlier on Saturday, the in-form Newcastle Jets belted the Wellington Phoenix 3-0 to remain unbeaten, but Kurz feels his side can change that.
Despite the form line working against the Reds, the German has faith in his team who could welcome back some key players for the visit of Ernie Merrick's Jets on Saturday.
"I think positive and we will make a good analysis of this game and then we'll start again," Kurz said.
"It's not the last game, we'll lose in this season and we must always look forward and stay positive.
"Newcastle is a top team and we played against them in the Cup, so we know about their quality.
"They are in good shape and are in good form, but we play at home and we'll win."
