Neuer to miss Bayern's Qatar training camp

Dec 17, 2017 - 5:27 PM Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will not join Bayern Munich at a January training camp in Qatar while reports suggest striker Sandro Wagner will sign for the Bundesliga champions.

"Manuel stays here, he is not going to Qatar. We are taking no risk whatsoever, and we will increase the physical workload step by step," Heynckes told Kicker sports magazine in a report published on their website.

The 31-year-old Bayern and Germany captain fractured his foot again in September and underwent surgery.

Bayern will train in Qatar from January 2 during the winter break but Neuer won't be fit yet to play again - as originally planned - when the league resumes on January 12.

It remains unclear when he will return but Neuer said recently his participation at the World Cup in Russia, starting June 14, was not endangered.

Wagner, meanwhile, will join up with Bayern in the January transfer window by moving from Hoffenheim, the Bild newspaper and Sky Sports reported.

The transfer fee is reported to be between 12-15 million euros ($18-23m) and he will sign a deal to 2020, according to Sky.

The seven-time Germany international Wagner, 30, would be back-up for Polish star forward Robert Lewandowski.

Previously both Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann and Heynckes had suggested only formalities remained to be completed in the deal.

Wagner, previously of Duisburg, Werder Bremen, Kaiserslautern, Hertha Berlin and Darmstadt, has scored four times in 11 Bundesliga games this season but has recently been out with injury.
