Columbus rallies past Dallas in second half

Aug 17, 2008 - 4:12 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Brad Evans scored in the 65th minute to give the Columbus Crew a 2-1 victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night.

On a free kick just outside the Dallas box, Guillermo Barros Schelotto put a cross into the box and Evans got a piece of the service with his head deflecting the ball inside the far post.

"Great win. Unbelievable win," Evans said. "We're getting closer to our point total from last year, still with 10 games left. We want to eclipse that. The wins will come, we are riding this wave and we will see what happens."

Evans' goal came just three minutes after Columbus had tied the game, 1-1, on a goal by Brian Carroll.

"It was definitely a tale of two halves. I didn't think we played well in the first half. We looked a little lethargic," Columbus coach Sigi Schmid said. "We came out in the second half with a lot more energy. We were more aggressive and were able to stretch their defense. Then the goals came. It was a great goal by Brian Carroll. It was a great goal by Evans."

In the 62nd minute Alejandro Moreno switched fields from the left to right. His service was right to the head of Schelotto who played the ball into space for a streaking Carroll and Carroll blasted the ball low to the near post.

Jeff Cunningham gave FC Dallas a 1-0 lead in the first half when he became the fourth player in MLS history to reach 100 goals.

In the 35th minute, off a throw-in, Dallas' Adrian Serioux made a run up the right flank. With speed he got into the box and put a low hard pass into the box. Cunningham was streaking in and just got his left foot on the ball to tuck it past Columbus Goalie William Hesmer.

""I feel disappointed because we weren't able to get a positive result from this match. So it kind of overshadows the milestone to be honest," Cunningham said.
