Mansally tally helps Revolution tie Rapids
Sep 21, 2008 - 6:47 AM COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (Ticker) -- Kenny Mansally scored the equalizer in the 50th minute as the New England Revolution earned a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.Colin Clark scored for Colorado (9-12-4), which moved into a third-place tie with Real Salt Lake (8-10-7) in the Western Conference.
The result was disappointing for the Rapids, who outplayed the Revolution for the majority of the match.
"It's a bit of a moral victory for us to get out of here with a point," New England goalkeeper Matt Reis said. "At the end of the year if you looked back and you got a point on the road every time you would be happy.
"And it's good to come back. I don't think we've had too many comebacks where we've gotten something out of it, so that's good."
Reis made a diving save in the 17th minute, denying Nick LaBrocca on a 25-yard blast for game's first big chance.
But Colorado would get on the board in the 42nd minute when Clark headed home a perfect cross from Terry Cooke into the bottom left corner of the net.
New England, which was outshot, 7-0, over the game's first 45 minutes, was able to tie the game on its first shot when Mansally scored his third goal of the campaign.
"The ball was bouncing in front of me to my left foot," said Mansally, who scored his first goal since May 11. "I saw the goalie was coming out so I placed it over him."
The Rapids had the better chances after Mansally's tally, but Colorado was unable to break the tie.
Reis made three saves to lead the Revolution (12-7-6), who remain in second place in the Eastern Conference.
"When we've previously come in here we've gotten nothing," New England coach Steve Nicol said. "So we wanted to come in and be tight and then loosen up. Obviously, we'd like to win, but a draw is enough."
