Dynamo 1, FC Dallas 0

May 10, 2009 - 5:36 AM HOUSTON (STATS) - Houston continued its winning ways Saturday night, while FC Dallas continued to struggle.

Kei Kamera scored in the 58th minute and the Dynamo beat Dallas 1-0 to extend their shutout streak to 403 minutes.

Houston hasn't allowed a goal in more than four games since a 1-0 loss to New York on April 4. The Dynamo (3-2-2) won their third straight while Dallas (1-6-1) lost its third in a row, scoring one goal during that span.

"It's a great win for us and I think the guys are happy and confident with the way things are going now," said Houston coach Dominic Kinnear. "I thought we were excellent in the first half. In the second, they had a good push, but we held strong.

"At halftime, we talked about Stuart (Holden) making some good runs behind because their back four was playing a high line. I thought defensively we were excellent."

Holden made a good run on the left side and got a nice forward pass from Brad Davis. Holden sent a cross just right of the center box and Kamara, who jokingly said he has been taking notes from Michael Jordan, skied over Dallas defender Steve Purdy and headed it into the left net.

"Yeah I was on a mission," Kamara said of his first goal of the season. "I've been looking for one for a while. I saw Stuart go down the line, it didn't look like he was going to get to it, but he looked up and I knew he was going to cross it.

"It's really tough," added Kamara. "I think I played four games and you feel like you should get your first goal. I'm happy to just get that one out of the way, but I am happy it's against Dallas and the winning goal."

Dallas, which has lost three in a row for the second time this season, has never won in Houston, falling to 0-7-2 in all competitions.

"It's a very difficult game for FC Dallas to come here and play," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "FC Dallas has never won a game here. It is a difficult environment. It was a great job by Houston. Very difficult environment, but I thought our guys battled very well. It was very difficult for us to get a grip of the game or control of the ball. It was disappointing."

Dallas registered just one shot on goal, and that came on a Purdy header in the 94th minute. Dave van den Bergh sent a cross from the left side into the center box where Purdy headed it off the ground. Houston's Pat Onstad moved to his left for his only save of the night to retain Houston's fourth straight shutout.

For Dallas, the loss still stings knowing they have come close to winning and were starting two new center backs in Purdy and George John. Hyndman called the defense the best Dallas has played this year.

"For me personally, it was my first game coming back, and it was my first game playing with George John, and our combination in the back," Purdy said. "I thought we handled it really well, especially, with a team with two very strong forwards - two guys who can handle the ball really well and are good in the air. I thought we did really well with them."
