Fever rally late to down Silver Stars

Sep 8, 2012 - 2:49 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tamika Catchings netted 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Indiana Fever rallied in the fourth quarter to take an 82-78 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars.

Katie Douglas added 18 points and nine boards, while Briann January contributed 12 points and Shavonte Zellous finished with 11 for the Fever, who have won six of their last seven.

Becky Hammon paced the Silver Stars with 15 points. Shameka Christon, Sophia Young and Jia Perkins each scored 13 points in defeat as San Antonio dropped four straight for the first time since a six-game slide from Aug. 14-28, 2011.

The first quarter saw five ties and three lead changes until back-to-back 3- pointers by Christon sparked a 23-10 run by San Antonio to give the Silver Stars a 31-21 advantage heading into the second.

Indiana managed to cut its deficit to three points on two separate occasions over the next two quarters, but could not manage to get any closer and trailed, 59-54, at the end of the third.

After Danielle Adams' layup gave San Antonio a 69-65 lead past the midpoint of the fourth, Catchings completed a three-point play before Douglas sank a shot from beyond the arc to give Indiana its first lead since early in the first quarter.

Perkins connected on a 3-pointer to put the Silver Stars back on top, 72-71, but Catchings answered with a three at the other end and Indiana went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line down the stretch to hang on for the win.
