Sparks hold off Dream
Jul 18, 2013 - 5:33 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kristi Toliver led a balanced Los Angeles attack with 15 points to pace the Sparks to a 77-73 win over the Atlanta Dream.Lindsey Harding and Alana Beard each scored 13 and Nneka Ogwumike totaled 12 points for the Sparks, who won their sixth straight game. Candace Parker pulled down 10 rebounds for LA, which moved to 9-0 at home this season. The Sparks have won 19 in a row at Staples Center in regular season play.
Angel McCoughtry scored 24 points to lead Atlanta, which lost its third in a row following a six-game winning streak. Erika de Souza had 15 points and 18 rebounds and Armintie Herrington scored 18 in defeat. Le'coe Willingham pulled down 12 boards.
The Sparks trailed by as many as nine points in the first half, but used a 17-5 spurt at the end of the second quarter to grab a 37-34 edge at the break thanks to Toliver's 3-pointer in the closing second.
It was tight throughout the third quarter, and LA took a 55-53 edge into the fourth.
The Sparks pulled away by scoring 10 in a row. The run was capped by Jenna O'Hea's 4-point play with 7:18 left for a 67-56 cushion.
Atlanta got as close as two points with McCoughtry's 3-ball cutting the deficit to 75-73 with 2.1 seconds left. Toliver iced the victory by making two from the charity stripe.
